depression

Depression is a prevalent and serious mental health condition characterised by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in daily activities. It affects how a person feels, thinks, and handles daily tasks, making it challenging to lead a normal life. Symptoms of depression can vary widely but often include changes in sleep patterns, appetite, energy levels, and concentration. In severe cases, individuals may experience thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

Several factors can contribute to depression, including genetic predisposition, biochemical imbalances, environmental stressors, perspective, beliefs, and traumatic life events. Depression is not a sign of weakness. Making changes to our life style as well as our thoughts and behaviours ifestyle can improve our life satisfaction and happiness considerably. Therapy such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), can provide strategies for coping and making the necessary changes.

The average person suffers from depression for 10 years before seeking help. That is why early intervention and support are crucial. If you or someone you know is struggling with depression, seeking help from a healthcare professional is essential. Remember, reaching out for help can be a sign of strength, and with appropriate care, individuals can manage depression and lead fulfilling lives.
