Entrepreneur and TED speaker Michael Brody-Waite has been sober for 17 years. He states that addicts wear masks to try to present themselves to the world in a certain way but they suffer from not being authentic.
He states that there are 4 masks people generally wear:
1. Saying yes when you should say no
2. Hiding a weakness
3. Avoiding difficult conversations
4. Holding back your unique perspective
Michael found that systematically applying the principles of recovery in a leadership environment differentiated him from his competitors and gave him a competitive advantage.
Michael's 3 principles of his system are:
1. Practice rigorous authenticity
2. Surrender the outcome
3. Do uncomfortable work Michael tells us real-life stories of when he embraced his principles in the face of great risk and profound outcomes.
To this day, this episode remainds one of my favourites. You can watch the full episode at the bottom of the page.
